As with any manufactured item, potentially harmful materials may be involved in either the construction or assembly processes.
The types and amounts of materials are limited by the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations (RoHS) directives. However, conventional lamps may still enclose small quantities of certain materials, such as fluorescent lamps that contain mercury, or have to be exempted from such restrictions. These particular items continue to pose a hazard if disposed of or handled inappropriately. Any such risk of course becomes greater when mass disposal is involved such as in bulk lamps change of a lighting installation.
Stela LED street lights avoid such risks through an Eco Design process that carefully selects materials and methods. Consequently, Stela is constructed using the following:
Stela LED street lights have a cleaning cycle that is anticipated to be six years. This cleaning cycle will also reduce consumption of cleaning agents, water and of course fuel for vehicles.
